About Dan Metcalfe.

Having grown up with the only dream of being a professional player, Dan knows what it is like to have a passion for the beautiful game. However, growing up in a family that disagreed with playing football (soccer) on Sundays, and the youth leagues all playing on that day, Dan was left behind. He was the last player picked in the playground, and didn’t get on a team until he was invited to his school team, age 13. During that time he worked relentlessly on his own, believing that one day all the hard work would pay off.

The last game of the season his Coach, Dave Stickland, told Dan he was going on with 7 minutes to play. Dan was left footed, but was put in at right midfield. The game was electric. 13 years of desire exploded into those 7 minutes. Dan played right mid, left mid, defender, forward, winger and every inch of the field. Completely out of control, yet inspired to do everything. With a minute left the left forward crossed the ball to the far post. Dan screamed into the box and dived head first into the ball. It was such a special moment where dreams come true. Into the back of the net, went Dan. Slicing his finger against the net, cutting it open, as the ball flew past the goal and out to the far side. Here launched Dan’s football career.

Year before, Dan was 10, there was a School trip to watch England play Brazil at Wembley stadium. After the game, teachers and the then Head Soccer Coach, John Shepherd, herded the young school kids through the puzzling crowd and back to the coach to drive us home. These were days before cell phones. Dan had a smart idea. He could disappear through the crowd, the chaperones would net see him, and he could run to the Players Entrance and meet the players. An hour later Dan had his match day program in his hands, signed by and England player and three Brazilian players. He wandered in a glorious daze back to the only bus still in the parking lot, with John Shepherd and the adults frantically searching for the “lost” boy. I was ushered, with lots of reprimands onto the bus and off we took for the 90 minute drive back. We were meant to get back at midnight. As we pulled into the school in Bournemouth at around 1:30am, frustrated mothers hair in night curlers and looking upset, fathers resigned to the late night, Dan was still staring at his signed program. It confirmed his dream that he was going to be a professional player one day. He was the last off the bus. On the last step from bus to sidewalk, a still sarcastically direct Coach John was standing blocking my way down. Coach John was a former professional player and a scout for the pro teams. Dan proudly exclaimed, “One day I’m going to be a professional player!”. The words that came next rocked his world. “You?” Said the Coach, “You’ll never be good enough!”. The final step to the ground came an abyss of darkness where Dan wanted to have the ground open up and swallow him. From the best night to the worst future. Dan learned what it was like to have his dream destroyed in one night.

Dan learned resilience, survival and fight. He wanted his dream and despite his belief being ripped away in one sentence, Dan made a decision and refused to believe the negative. He became his own leader and visionary to just work until one person would believe in him. It took almost four years.

Having grown to the School team captain within 6 games of the following season from his 7 minute debut, Dorset County F.C., the “state” equivalent team in England, invited Dan to join the squad. Again, he grew to be Captain of the team. Next came invitations from professional teams to attend trials. Dan ended up being invited to Crystal Palace as a youth player and then onto AFC Bournemouth by Harry Redknapp, (His first coaching job on a career that took him to some top level teams.) A life change was about to happen. Dan fell out of love with the game. The professional game was not what he expected and, still being at school for advanced education, walked away from the game he loved.
The things Dan could take with him was:

1) Set your dreams and goals

2) Work harder than anyone for the goals

3) If you really want it, no one can stop you, except yourself.

Having served 8 years with the Royal Marine Cadets, he was about to sign up for the military when he started attending an aerobics dance class which would help serve his next mission. The Special Forces. Never aim low. However, with he help of his Mum’s advice, the teacher suggested Dan audition for a famous Dance Theater School in London. Dan agreed, just for a laugh. Next thing he knew, he was offered a 3 year full scholarship and off to theater Dance school he went. The next steps are explained as part of the messaging in his book, “How to be a better Soccer Player”, with inspiring moments that elevated from good too great.

Life was great and Dan was invited to join the cast of Starlight Express, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webbers West End hit show. He performed in front of millions of people over the next five years, also traveling as a Lead in the show to Japan, Germany and then invited to Las Vegas. This is where the story really begins.

During a night show Dan, performing a mild stunt, hit a wall head first and fractured his spine. He was paralyzed, head swelling, pressure on his optical nerve closed his vision in his right eye and blindness was a definite initial thought. He was unable to return to the stage and the Doctors wanted him to sign a disability status for the rest of his life. He was not recovering and the therapy not working. 4 months later and Dan had to take his life into his own power. We have to make decisions to lead our own goals, no different than he had as a 10 year old. Life repeats itself and rewarding us for lessons we have already faced. Refusing to listen to the Doctors, Dan had to find work while he continued his progressing recovery. He started Coaching soccer in Las Vegas.

Dan took a team, Las Vegas Premier's 3rd team, that had never won a game, and coached them for 7 weeks. That team went form losing, to drawing, to winning their first game ever. That season ended with the State Championship tournament, where his team reached the semi-finals.

Dan was immediately invited to the Nevada Olympic Development Program as Head Coach. The jump up the “ladder” went fast. Dan was award Nike Youth Coach of the Year award, placed nine players from that first team over the next two years into college (the best college placement of any team from Nevada at that time), and was invited to coach on the US Regional Staff for the Olympic development program.

Dan’s reputation comftnued to grow, placing over 400 players into college programs for soccer, opening his own Youth club, having the #1 ranked team in the US and working with some of the best coaches in the US and England. He was invited to work as an assistant coach at the LA Galaxy, and also to start the very first LA Galaxy Academy, but decided to stay committed to his players and club.

Dan found partnerships in England, with Tottenham Hotspur as an official US Club and having their coaches fly to the US to work with his teams. He also worked with Fulham FC, having players invited to train with them, and scouting American players for the EPL. One of those players he scouted, that was signed by Fulham, was the great Clint Dempsey.

Dan, working with TV mogul Mark Burnett, whose son played for Dan, shot a documentary, “The Ultimate Goal”, with Mark (who wrote the foreword to Dan’s book) as advising producer. Mark was phenomenal with his support and Marks love of the game itself.

Dan has gone on to become Hollywoods expert to the stars. He has worked with the likes of Will Ferrell, Robert Duvall, Channing Tatum, Amanda Bynes, Elizabeth Shue, Dermot Mulroney, Josh Hutcherson, Carly Schroeder and so many non-players to help them look great on the field infront of the camera. He has opened the door to many youth and adult players to be in the movies and understand how to deal with pressure, both achieving the skills needed while the camera, and everyone, is watching them. Dan’s credits his early life struggles to deal with pressure, and his dance training and stage performing, to know how to create the level of performance both mentally and physically. The training of the mind to brain subconscious belief is essential to confidence and success.

Dan launched the incredible Soccer Performance Training Center in Westlake Village with Soccer Star Yura Movsisyan. A fantastic training center where players of all ages trained with the highest level mentorship. World Cup players, professional teams, celebrities and even the Nick Sports show, Soccer SuperStar, attended the center. Dan was an Head Judge on the show alongside US National team captain Marcelo Balboa, Olympic Champion Angela Hucles and the National SuperStar Heather Mitts. A hit show for girls that launched female soccer before the support of girls soccer really grabbed the momentum.

We never cease to learn when we continue to raise the level. Life has a funny way of making us have to see how strong we are, yet provides us with the character to win, if we commit to our goal. In 2018, Dan was out on a bike ride when a security guard brought down a metal gate onto his head. Dan was knocked unconscious, out for a number of minutes, suffered a broken coccyx, joint injuries and double head trauma from the gate and hitting the ground already out. Part of his brain died and he had to learn to talk, focus, move and defeat serious TBI and concussion effects to regain a normal healthy life. It took many years, and Dan still does the foundation brain exercises daily to maintain his power.

Seeing the opportunity, Dan launched a national brand that focused on brain to body training for those with balance, mobility or neurological loss. However, world champion athletes started using his invention and showcased the need for brain to body training at all ages and levels. He has since trained tens of thousands of people to higher level of performance. Dan began to showcase his understanding of the brain itself. We discover real depth of real life potential in accomplishments and survival when we are at a cross roads of life itself. The gift is to share that knowledge to others who can benefit without the trauma.

Dan now speaks around the country. He has formed a company called Born SuperHuman. He mentors, teaches and guides high level performers in all walks of life to achieve greater. Dan believes we re all born with potential far beyond our own comprehension. We are limited by others standards, and stopped from being unleashed to be all we can be. The sky is not the limit. Our self belief and thinking is our only stopper.

The final piece of the puzzle was the moment Dan was asked to send his resume and letter of reference to coach in America. Dan reached out to have a professional scout, former professional player and someone who knew him well to write that reference. A most satisfying moment to see the proof and endorsement letter from …..  John Shepherd. We can complete our circle if we build from our own passion and power.

Dan's on a mission to help any player, any sport, but especially soccer, to become their best. It's not about going pro or college, but finding the confidence to play to the quality and goals we dream of. It is not the level of the team or destination alone, but more the ability to know how great you are in the walks of life we stride. The only thing we will ever be the very best at, all the time, is being our greatest self. The greatest leaders do not have the most followers. The greatest leaders create the most leaders. And we have mentored many new found leaders.

The lessons and how to overcome challenges Dan has learned, the soccer success he has gained for others, the pride he takes in each players success, on or off the field, is his  highest level of accomplishment. That's why success has been achieved by so many with Dan by their side. It truly is all about them.
