This DVD evolved out of my time in Las Vegas. I had fractured my spine performing in a show, Starlight Express, was paralyzed for a while, and was coming back to health through rehabilitation. A parent who knew my soccer background asked me to help coach some players who were struggling on their soccer team. I started a Saturday morning clinic for $10 per player for an hour and a half. The first week, through word of mouth, I had 8 players show up. We had a great time and the players left pumped up about their development and the belief they could get better.

Word spread, and the following week I had 18 players show up. Again, the energy was fantastic and the session went far beyond just soccer alone. The third week, that was a moment I will never forget. I do not get nervous coaching, but when I turned into the parking lot, my heart jumped. Yes, I got nervous. Standing on the field, two fields actually, were 87 players wanting the developmental training and excitement other players were getting. I have to say I did one of the best training session I have ever done. My energy was amazing, excitement was brimming and the opportunity to touch so many players was all I could have hoped for. From that time on I had to limit spaces to signup as I wanted to give individual attention as well as group motivational training. That night, I started looking at the growth and why it had happened. I came back with two conclusions, both from looking and listening to the players themselves. Firstly, so many people around the players limited their belief in themselves by not trusting that they could do the skills the professional players did. Secondly, and this is where I came in, my teaching was so simple and specific that the success of the player was almost immediate. This then addressed the first issue, where the players now began to see that the problem was NOT their talent, but rather their own belief that they could do anything.

I also saw that kids will watch an adult do the skills and just believe they will do it when they were that age, so they had time. My belief is if you can do it now, why not? So I made the executive decision that the players in the DVD should be the age of, or younger than, the players watching the DVD. In that way, a youth player watching the DVD would know they could do the skills too, rather than using the excuse that the older players should be better anyway. This also impacted parents, by showing what was possible, to help their player achieve success now, and watch their child grow in confidence.

I strongly believe that the only difference between a youth developing player and a pro is the strength, power, speed and tactical awareness. The skills can still be done at an age appropriate level. I have never found one skill a pro could do that I could not teach a 6 or 7 year old. The Super Soccer Skills DVD was born that night, and planning for 4 years on it to make it the best possible teaching aid came to fruition. The emails, phone calls, seeing players at fields, all of these have born testimony to the brilliance of the youth today and the simple teaching offered gives the opportunity to EVERY youth player out there.

By the way, the 8 players I started with ended up asking me to train their team. That year, having not won a game in season play and being the third ranked team in their age group within their club, they ended up taking 3rd in the State Championship. The achievement was great, but the fact those players went off to play in college 4 years later knowing they were good enough, that was the prize.
